Iran strongly condemned US attacks on radars and coastal surveillance facilities in the country's south, calling the offensive a "clear violation" of the fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.


The attacks targeted facilities in the regions of Sirik and Qeshm Island, which are "responsible for safeguarding the country's borders and ensuring the safety of navigation on international waterways", Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday (6).


US Central Command said its forces attacked surveillance radar installations in the area "to defend against further maritime attacks" after Iran launched drones toward the Strait of Hormuz.

"The ministry described the attack as a clear violation of the April 8 ceasefire and an act of military aggression against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the Iranian Foreign Ministry statement said.


The recent attacks indicate that Washington has "no desire to reduce tensions" and are part of a "broader pattern of hostile and provocative behavior by the United States towards Iran", the ministry said.


It added that Iran's armed forces responded to the US attacks in a "vigilant, decisive and proportionate manner".
