Iran says US is responsible for escalating conflict

Responsibility for the most recent escalation of hostilities lies with the United States, Iran's Foreign Ministry said in a new statement this Wednesday (8), in which it also accuses Washington of "breaking agreements".

According to the Iranian government, US attacks on southern Iran, the decision to reimpose sanctions on Iranian oil and ongoing fighting in Lebanon have "rendered ineffective important and fundamental parts" of the agreement to end the war.

The United States stated that the attacks carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, as well as the sanctions, were "punishment" for recent Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy said one of its members was killed by "enemy drones" on Wednesday, according to Iranian state media.

In Bahrain, the sirens sounded again for the third time in the last few hours. The country's Ministry of the Interior once again advised residents to go to the nearest shelter. The warning was issued after Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported this morning that a new wave of missiles was heading towards the Gulf country.

Earlier, the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) and the Iranian Army claimed to have launched missiles and drones against 85 US military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait. To date, there are no confirmed reports of damage.

The Revolutionary Guard operates separately from the other Iranian Armed Forces and has its own Army, Navy, Air Force, intelligence services and special forces units. Its mission is to preserve the Islamic Republic and it reports directly to Iran's supreme leader.
