Iran says it will no longer negotiate peace deal unless Trump suspends threats

Iran said on Tuesday (7) that there will be no more peace talks unless United States President Donald Trump ceases his repeated threats to restart the war.

The country's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, criticized Trump and said that his statements violate the terms of the memorandum of understanding reached last month last to suspend the war.
In a post with a photo of the crowd that has been attending the funeral of Ali Khamenei, the country's former supreme leader, highlighted, the Iranian foreign minister stated:
"Millions of proud Iranians have come together to honor Grand Ayatollah Khamenei and his legacy. Neither they, nor our brave Armed Forces, are shaken by any threats. Negotiations for the final agreement will not begin if the threats continue. Honor your signature".

The new threats made by Trump occurred during a press conference at the White House this Monday (6). Asked about peace negotiations with Iran, the US president said he preferred to reach an agreement, but did not rule out an attack on enemy territory.
"Either we are going to make a deal or we are going to finish the job. Right. And it won't be difficult to finish the job. I prefer to make a deal, because I don't want to affect 91 million people. We can tear down their bridges in an hour, we can cut off their energy supply," he declared.

Khamenei's funeral
The escalation in tension between the US and Iran occurs amid calls for revenge and even the death of the US president, by the Iranian population, during the funeral of Ali Khamenei, killed on the first day of war, on February 28.
Since Saturday (4), thousands of people have gathered in the streets across the country. This Tuesday, the coffins of the former supreme leader and four members of his family who also died in the attack are in the city of Qom.
A day earlier, this Monday, thousands of people dressed in black took to the streets of the Iranian capital, Tehran. Aerial footage shown on Iranian state television showed a huge crowd stretching from Azadi Square, or Freedom Square, for miles along an avenue of the same name.
"Today, as we are here for our leader's funeral, it is a very difficult day," said funeral participant, Fátima Hassan. "We are not here to say goodbye to him, we are here to take revenge. And we will take revenge."
