Iran says deal with US has not yet been finalized

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said this Friday (29) that the Iranian regime is in contact with the United States, but noted that a memorandum of understanding has not yet been finalized.

US President Donald Trump said earlier on Friday that he was meeting with advisers in the White House Situation Room to determine whether he would accept a deal with Iran.

CNN reported on Thursday (28) that negotiators had reached a tentative agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz and begin a 60-day negotiation period over Iran's nuclear program, but that the terms still needed Trump's approval.

The American president said this Friday that, as part of any agreement, Iran "must agree that it will never have a nuclear weapon or bomb" and that the "Strait of Hormuz must be opened immediately", without tolls or restrictions on traffic, among other stipulations.

Baghai told Iranian state TV that the future of the Strait of Hormuz will depend on Oman and Iran, as both nations have a plan to manage passage through the waterway.

The Iranian official added that negotiations are focused on ending the war and that nuclear issues are not currently being discussed.
