Iran's petrochemicals are hit by Israel; Tel Aviv intercepts missiles

The Karun petrochemical plant, near the city of Bandar-e-Mahshahr, in southwestern Iran, was hit by an Israeli projectile and had parts of its facilities damaged, the deputy governor responsible for security in Khuzestan province reported on Monday (8), according to the Fars news agency.

The attack on the petrochemical plant this morning was also confirmed by the Israeli Air Force. In a statement on X, the military said that "several targets at the petrochemical complex in Mahshahr" were hit.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard says it launched attacks on Israeli airbases Nevatim and Tel Nof in response to an attack on radar installations in Iran.

Hours earlier, the Israeli Air Force had reported that "missiles were launched from Iran towards the territory of the State of Israel."

"Defense systems are operating to intercept the threat," Israel published. Sirens sounded in Jerusalem on Monday, followed by loud explosions.

Israel said it attacked military targets in western and central Iran on Monday, even after US President Donald Trump reportedly asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from further attacks.

In retaliation, Iran launched a salvo of missiles at Israeli targets, putting US-Iran peace talks at risk. But Trump insisted that a deal to end the overall war was still within reach.
