Iran's Chancellor says US threats make definitive agreement difficult

Negotiations for a definitive agreement between Tehran and Washington will not begin if the United States maintains its threats, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday (7), after American President Donald Trump threatened to "finish the job" if an agreement is not reached.

In the same post, Araghchi takes a position on the negotiations for the definitive peace agreement with the United States, pointing out that they continue without beginning. "Negotiations on a definitive agreement will not begin if the threats continue. Honor your signature," he wrote.

The Iranian foreign minister's message makes reference to an interim agreement signed last month between Iran and the United States, which provides for both sides to refrain from threatening or using force against each other.

As CNN showed, on Monday (6), Trump said that the United States will reach an agreement with Iran or "finish the job", renewing the threat of military action.

Indirect talks between the US and Iran ended last week without any public sign of progress toward lasting peace, despite a 60-day ceasefire intended to open space for diplomacy.

"Either we're going to make a deal or we're going to get the job done. Right? And it won't be hard to get the job done. I'd rather make a deal, because I don't want to affect 91 million people," Trump told reporters in the White House's Oval Office.

"We can tear down their bridges in an hour, we can knock out their power supply... They have no money now. We haven't given them any money," he threatened.
