Iran remains 'distrustful' of US, says top negotiator

Iran remains "distrustful" of the United States, said this Friday (10) Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the country's main negotiator.

Ghalibaf, who serves as speaker of the Iranian Parliament, said he expressed this sentiment during indirect negotiations with the United States held in Switzerland last month, according to Iranian state agency IRNA (Islamic Republic News Agency).

"We are suspicious of the Americans. During the negotiations, I made it clear to the vice president of the United States that we do not trust you," Ghalibaf said.

"In my view, only those who are prepared for war can negotiate with the United States," he added.

He reiterated that Iran will continue to prepare to defend the country, even after signing the memorandum of understanding with the United States.

Ghalibaf added that Iran will not surrender or "submit to oppression."
