Iran recalls British ambassador over 'baseless' security allegations

Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador to Tehran this Thursday (9) to protest what it classified as "unfounded accusations" that Tehran was involved in security-related activities in the United Kingdom, state media reported.
The measure comes after the United Kingdom's decision to summon the charge d'affaires of the Iran in London on Tuesday (7), after two Romanian citizens were arrested for the stabbing of a British-Iranian journalist in 2024. The United Kingdom said the attack was carried out on behalf of the Iranian state, a claim Tehran rejected.
The ministry's director-general for Western Europe, Alireza Yousefi, handed the ambassador a note of formal protest, accusing London of trying to "divert attention" and urging the country to stop harboring what Tehran described "terrorist networks" targeting Iran.
