Iran parliamentarian cites "deception" in Trump's speech about agreement

An influential lawmaker from Iran's hard-line wing has warned that US President Donald Trump may be acting deceptively in announcing a "grand deal" to end the war, instead advocating that Iran maintain its attacks.

"The probability that Trump is deceiving is high," said Representative Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, in a post on X.

In the post, he added that the President of the United States "wants to keep the situation calm for now."

According to Rezaei, Iran should instead "strike harder, destroy and annihilate the enemy's infrastructure, economic centers and artificial intelligence in the region, so that they feel more pain."

On Thursday night (11), Trump claimed to have "ended the war" with Iran and hailed a "great deal", in a sudden turnaround just hours after he threatened to hit the country "hard" and promised to seize Kharg Island - Iran's main oil export hub. Later, Trump said he had canceled these planned attacks.

In another publication, Rezaei warned the United States against any attack on Kharg Island, stating that "if they come, they will not return alive."

The small island in the Persian Gulf is an economic lifeline for Iran and accounts for about 90% of the country's crude oil exports.

Rezaei is not the only member of the Iranian hard-line wing to demonstrate distrust towards the United States and Trump.

Throughout the ongoing negotiations, a small but influential hardline faction known as "Jebhe-ye Paydari", or Resistance Front, has worked to sabotage a possible agreement with the US, considering that such an understanding would represent a capitulation.
