Iran hits US military base in Jordan, says Iranian media

The IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran) claimed to have struck four targets at the US military base of Al-Azraq, in Jordan, Iranian media reported on Tuesday night (9).

According to state media, the targets included F-35 fighter hangars and a command center under control. Tehran reportedly used long-range missiles during the offensive.

The IRGC said it was prepared for an "overwhelming and decisive" response to any US attack.

There were no reports of air warning sirens in Jordan.

The Revolutionary Guard had also said it attacked the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain in response to the American offensive against the country.

In the early evening of Tuesday, CENTCOM (US Central Command) stated that its forces began launching "self-defense" attacks against Iran at 6 pm (Brasília time), in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter.

The extent and intensity of the US strikes were not immediately clear, although the Central Command post described them as a "proportionate response to Iran's unwarranted aggression."

Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that he was informed by the US Army that Iran shot down a US Apache helicopter that crashed off the coast of Oman.

Hours after the attacks, the US Army said it had completed self-defense strikes against Iran.

"CENTCOM forces attacked Iranian air defense systems, ground control stations and surveillance radars near the Strait of Hormuz with precision munitions fired by U.S. Air Force and Navy fighters," CENTCOM said in a press release.
