Iran denies requesting negotiations with the US and contradicts Trump's statement

Trump says that the US accepts negotiations with Iran, but that the ceasefire is over
Iran denied having requested negotiations with the United States, contradicting a statement given earlier this Friday (10) by US President Donald Trump.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that Tehran had not requested negotiations with the US, but had accepted the visit of the Qatari mediator to Iran, according to state TV Iranian.

Trump said this Friday that the United States had agreed to negotiate with Iran after Tehran asked to continue negotiations, at the same time that he highlighted that the June ceasefire between the two nations had ended.
Trump's statement was made after three commercial tankers from Qatar and Saudi Arabia were targeted this week. In response, the United States bombed Iranian targets, and Iran retaliated last Thursday (9) with attacks on American military installations in neighboring Gulf countries.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue 'negotiations'. We agree with that, but the United States has made it absolutely clear to them that the ceasefire is OVER!", wrote Trump.
Qatar negotiators met with Iranian officials this Friday to try to reduce tensions after the exchange of attacks between Iran and the United States. The negotiations should also discuss navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a source with knowledge of the matter heard by Reuters.

Daily tanker traffic through the strategic sea route was slower this Friday. The sequence of attacks has raised concerns about the recovery of global oil supplies and maritime transport, as well as highlighting the fragility of the provisional truce.
According to the source, negotiations in Iran aim to discuss the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed in June, in addition to the issues that triggered the recent escalation between Washington and Tehran, including disputes over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The semi-official Iranian agency Tasnim reported that a Qatari delegation visited Iran in an initiative that, according to analysts, seeks to reinforce Doha's role as a mediator. The visit comes after Qatar accused Iran of involvement in the attacks in Hormuz.
