Ipsos-Ipec: 73% think that Brazil should keep Pix exactly as it is

The Ipsos-Ipec survey released this Friday (26) assessed how Brazilians believe the federal government should act in relation to Pix, under the threat of new tariffs imposed by the United States.

For 73% of those interviewed, the Brazilian government should keep Pix exactly as it is. For this group, no country should interfere in the national payment system.

At the same time, 19% of those who responded to the questionnaire said the government should make small adaptations to avoid trade conflicts with Washington.

8% said they did not know or did not respond to the questionnaire.

Pix was cited as one of the reasons for the recommendation of 25% taxation on Brazilian imports, announced on June 1st. The North American agency's report states that the payment method is "unfair and discriminatory" towards companies in the country.

After the announcement, the federal government came out in defense of the instrument. The PT even presented a PEC (Constitutional Amendment Proposal) with the aim of guaranteeing national sovereignty over payment systems operated by the Central Bank, such as Pix.

Former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro defended that Brazil negotiate exits with the United States, remembering that the country also has similar systems for instant payments, but states that it "would never replace Pix".

Methodology
2,000 people were interviewed, between the 13th and 17th of June, through . The margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points. The confidence level is 95%. The research was carried out with resources from the institute itself.
