Investigated police officer escapes from prison job amid shootings in Rio

A criminal police officer fled, this Thursday (28), from the Gericinó Complex, when approached for a routine search, before starting his shift at the Nelson Virgínia Prison, in Bangu, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro.

The agent is investigated by the General Inspectorate, at the administrative level. During the escape, there was an exchange of gunfire between the police officers. The Complex's Central Concierge was called and tried to prevent the police officer from leaving. Shots were exchanged, which hit the vehicle's tires.

There were no injuries, but the agent was found in a private hospital in Tijuca, in the north of Rio.

He was transferred to the Dr. Hamilton Agostinho Vieira de Castro Hospital, in the Gericinó Complex, in Bangu, where he is under observation. As soon as you are medically discharged, you will be transferred to a prison unit.

The incident was registered at the 34th DP (Bangu), and the police officer was arrested in the act for attempted murder and resistance.

In a statement, Seppen (Secretariat of State for Criminal Police) stated that it "does not condone any misconduct, commission of crimes or abuse of authority carried out by its employees".
