Intubated, woman blinks to confirm attacks by ex-husband in Manaus

A man was arrested, this Monday (26), after attacking and trying to kill his own wife on May 18, in the Parque Dez de Novembro neighborhood, south-central zone of Manaus (AM). The victim, who is hospitalized and unable to speak due to intubation, confirmed, by blinking his eyes, that the attacks had been carried out by the man.

According to PCAM (Civil Police of Amazonas), the preventive arrest warrant served against the 51-year-old suspect occurred after investigations indicated that the man was responsible for the attempted feminicide against the 44-year-old woman, which occurred in the middle of this month.

In a press conference, police officers from DECCM (Specialized Police Station for Crimes against Women) reported that the victim was admitted to the 28 de Agosto Hospital and Emergency Room with several serious injuries spread across her body, which brought the case to the attention of the police.

Medical reports issued based on examinations carried out on the day of presentation to the hospital showed signs of physical aggression.

The victim, who is intubated, confirmed that the injuries had been caused by his ex-partner. According to the corporation, she confirmed it through signs with her eyes.

As informed by delegate Patricia Leão, during the investigations, previous records of domestic violence formalized by the victim against the person being investigated were identified, in addition to requests for urgent protective measures.

Man's version and arrest
According to the police, the attacker initially informed his ex-partner's daughter that she had tripped over a stone used as a step and then fallen down a staircase.

"The version presented raised suspicions due to the history of attacks suffered by the victim during the relationship, which lasted approximately 15 years", reported the delegate.

The report given by the man ended up being denied after examinations and medical reports pointed to injuries caused by physical attacks, in addition to confirmation from the victim himself.

With the elements gathered, the police represented the preventive arrest of the author this Saturday (23), a measure that was granted by the Court and later carried out by the teams.

After serving the warrant at the beginning of the week, the man was taken to the police unit and will be charged with attempted feminicide.
