International aid begins arriving in Venezuela in response to devastating earthquakes

International aid is beginning to arrive in Venezuela to help rescue victims of the devastating earthquakes that hit the country. Search teams from at least five countries and the UN landed in South American Venezuelan territory this Friday (26) and are already working with Venezuelan rescuers.

▶ Context: Two tremors of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 recorded on Wednesday night (24) in an interval of less than a minute. Until the last update of this report, authorities confirmed 235 deaths and 4,300 injuries.
According to the Venezuelan president, Delcy Rodríguez, and governments of other countries, the following delegations are already in Venezuela:
Mexico;
Chile;
El Salvador;
United States;
Qatar;
UN.
Delcy published images of the arrival of soldiers on her social networks Mexicans with sniffer dogs and also Salvadoran rescuers in the early hours of this Friday.
Mexico sent 250 military personnel specialized in rescue, five search dogs, four aircraft, a drone, rescue equipment and medical supplies. El Salvador has already sent 300 rescuers and 50 tons of supplies.

Countries show solidarity
Several countries around the world have promised to send humanitarian aid to Venezuela, both with rescue teams and supplies.
Some of them are on their way to Venezuelan territory this Friday. Teams from Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Spain have already embarked for Venezuela, according to the countries' governments.

UN
The UN humanitarian affairs body reported that 25 international teams have been mobilized, with a total of 1,000 professionals.
"The coming days will require a massive collective effort to support the government-led response and help communities," said humanitarian aid chief Tom Fletcher.
USA
The US State Department said it is mobilizing $150 million in aid, and has also deployed a disaster response team with two urban search and rescue units, as well as providing air transport, logistics and support coordination team to move personnel and vital supplies to affected areas.
Red Cross
The first 17 tons of humanitarian supplies are leaving the International Federation of the Red Cross regional hub in Panama for Venezuela this Friday.
"The cargo includes cooking kits, hygiene kits, mosquito nets and other essential items," said Loyce Pace, regional director for the Americas at IFRC.
India
Two air force planes departed for Venezuela carrying a field hospital and more than 35 tons of relief supplies, medicines and medical equipment, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said.
Germany
A 48-member German disaster response team will be sent to Venezuela this Friday to assist in rescue and recovery operations.
Pope Leo XIV
Pope Leo sent €100,000 ($114 thousand) to Venezuela for aid to earthquake victims, coming from the Vatican's charitable fund, Vatican media reported.
World Central Kitchen
Chef José Andrés, founder of the food aid organization World Central Kitchen, said his team has already started distributing meals in Caracas. He also stated that his Longer Tables fund will immediately contribute US$1 million to help Venezuela.
Colombia
Colombia's National Disaster Risk Management Unit said it has mobilized an urban search and rescue team with more than 60 people, four dog teams and 12 tons of equipment to Venezuela.
Nine firefighters from the city of Cali will also assist in rescue work, according to the mayor.
Ecuador
O Ecuador plans to send a rescue team to Venezuela, consisting of 46 urban search and rescue specialists, two dogs and six tons of equipment.
Panama
Panama said it will send a rescue mission to Venezuela and is organizing humanitarian aid.
France
France said it is sending an urban search and rescue unit to Venezuela, including medical teams, engineers and dogs to help locate and extricate survivors from collapsed buildings.
Spain
The Ministry of Defense of Spain reported that a military plane will take 57 soldiers from its search and rescue unit and 40 firefighters from the Madrid region to Venezuela. The Spanish development agency also plans to set up a field hospital in the country.
Italy
Italy's civil protection agency said it was sending an advance team to Venezuela, while Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said firefighters, the Ministry of Defense and the Air Force were being mobilized to offer help.
