Inter formalizes request for recognition of the 2005 Brasileirão title

International formalized, this Tuesday (26), the request to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) for the recognition of the 2005 Brazilian Championship title. The club from Rio Grande do Sul published an official note to confirm the protocol delivered to president Samir Xaud.

The management reiterates that there is no intention to withdraw or revoke Corinthians' title.

"Sport Club Internacional filed, this Tuesday (27/05), with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), a request for recognition of the title of 2005 Brazilian Series A Champion. The document was delivered to the president of the CBF, Samir Xaud, and brings together legal, historical and sporting foundations related to that season's championship", wrote Inter.

"In the application, Internacional requests institutional recognition of the 2005 Brazilian title, without any request for withdrawal or revocation of the title approved by Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. The objective, according to the documents presented, is to promote historical reparation in view of the impacts caused by the decisions taken at the time", explained the club.

The request was formalized by the president of Inter, Alessandro Barcellos, and the president of the Gaucho Football Federation (FGF), Luciano Hocsman. Other influential names were present, such as former president Fernando Carvalho.

"The request sent to the CBF is supported by documents, specialized technical opinion, public statements by people involved in the case and precedents of historical recognition carried out by the sporting entity itself on other occasions", he stated.

The 2005 Brazilian Championship was marked by the 'Mafia do Apito' scandal, a results manipulation scheme. At the time, 11 matches played by referee Edilson Pereira de Carvalho were canceled.
