INSS queue drops to 1.8 million requests, the lowest level in 21 months, according to the agency

The National Social Security Institute (INSS) reported this Tuesday (30) that the waiting list for benefits fell to 1.831 million applications in June. This is the lowest level since September 2024, when the queue was 1.771 million orders.
In February, the queue reached a record of 3.128 million orders. The data was presented at the meeting of the National Social Security Council.
About two weeks ago, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said that the INSS has the goal of clearing the waiting list for the granting of benefits by September this year. This was a promise made by Lula when he took office in 2023.
The Ministry of Social Security considers that the INSS goal of "clearing the queue" means ending the backlog of applications older than 45 days.
