Injured in shooting near the White House is in serious condition, says US Secret Service

One of the two people shot in a shooting outside the White House, seat of the United States government, this Saturday (24), is in serious but stable condition.
According to the US Secret Service, the victim, who was not identified, suffered a gunshot wound but is not life-threatening. The location of the wound was also not disclosed.
The other injured person would be the person suspected of starting the shooting, who died. The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia identified the shooter as 21-year-old Nasire Best.
According to authorities, Best began shooting toward a White House security checkpoint when Secret Service agents returned fire. He, who is from Dundalk, Maryland, was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
President Donald Trump was at the White House at the time of the shooting.
This was the third shooting in the president's vicinity in the last month, after a man stormed the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in April armed with guns and knives.
Secret Service agents also shot a man who shot at them earlier this month near the Washington Monument.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the suspect in Saturday's shooting had a "possible obsession with our country's most prized structure."
He also used the episode to promote the ballroom he intends to build on the site of the former East Wing of the White House, stating that the attack "shows how important it is, for all future presidents, to have what will be the safest and most secure space ever built in Washington, D.C.".
Trump asked Congress for $1 billion for increased security at the White House complex, including the ballroom.
Best had had a previous encounter with police near the White House, according to court records from the District of Columbia. He was arrested last July for trying to enter the White House grounds near another checkpoint. He ignored police orders to stop, claimed to be Jesus Christ and said he wanted to be arrested.
A woman who identified herself as Best's mother told The Washington Post that she found out about what happened on social media and said she was in shock. According to her, her son "was never violent, regardless of what people are posting."
