Industrial production falls in most places surveyed by IBGE in May

Industrial production fell in nine of the 15 locations surveyed in May compared to April, according to data from the Monthly Industrial Survey - Regional Physical Production, released by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).

The national drop of 0.2% was driven by the most intense declines recorded in Bahia (-8.9%), Mato Grosso (-3.2%) and the Northeast Region (-3.2%). There were also losses in Minas Gerais (-1.7%), Rio Grande do Sul (-1.1%), Pará (-1.0%), Espírito Santo (-0.5%), Rio de Janeiro (-0.3%) and São Paulo (-0.1%).

In the opposite direction, six places advanced, with emphasis on Ceará (3.2%), as well as Pernambuco (2.4%), Santa Catarina (2.3%), Amazonas (2.1%), Paraná (1.4%) and Goiás (0.7%).
