Increase in aesthetic procedures in men: surgeons explain to Dr. Kalil
More and more men in Brazil are seeking aesthetic procedures, both surgical and non-surgical, in a trend that plastic surgery experts point out as consolidated and growing. Marcelo Sampaio recalled how the scenario was very different a few years ago. "In the past, when you treated a man, he didn't want to be in the same environment as women," he said. Following behind, blepharoplasty, an eyelid surgery that corrects excess skin on the upper eyelid and removes prominent fat pads on the lower eyelid, has gained more and more space.
"Today, eyelid surgery has almost come close to gynecomastia", observed the specialist, explaining that excess fat in the lower eyelids gives the face "a really tired appearance".
Naturalness in results attracts more patients
Luciana Pepino pointed out a determining factor for the increase in male demand: the greater naturalness of the results currently obtained. "Man seeking plastic surgery today, knowing that the results are more natural, since he doesn't want to appear, he doesn't want to have the stigma of plastic surgery, so he seeks corrections more calmly", explained the specialist.
Among women, in addition to liposuction, breast surgeries - both reduction and augmentation - and facial surgery are the most sought after. "Face surgery has been more sought after lately. There has been a significant increase in demand for this type of surgery," added Sampaio.
Survey reveals interest from a third of the population
Sampaio revealed unprecedented data from a survey commissioned by the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery to Datafolha. According to the survey, 4% of the Brazilian population has already undergone some aesthetic procedure, surgical or non-surgical.
The most surprising finding, however, was something else: 30% of Brazilians expressed interest in undergoing an aesthetic procedure at some point. "One third of Brazil's population", highlighted the expert. "Can you imagine the number of people who would like to undergo a minimally invasive surgical or cosmetic procedure?
