In the midst of the pre-campaign, Haddad responds to Tarcísio's criticism of the Lula government
Former Finance Minister and pre-candidate for the government of São Paulo Fernando Haddad (PT) responded to criticism from Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) about the legacy of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's (PT) administration.
When participating in the Rumos do Brasil Forum, promoted by Veja Magazine this Monday (15) in São Paulo, Tarcísio said that Lula "will only miss an opportunity and will not be missed".
Amid the dispute over the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, Haddad countered the points raised by the governor.
"Contrary to what Tarcísio said here, we are not missing any opportunities. Brazil is a champion of clean energy, hydroelectric, wind and solar, a champion in biofuel, and has an ecological transformation program recognized throughout the world."
Opposing Tarcísio's political camp, the former minister defended the national processing of rare earths.
"The country had no idea what AI was until we took over, we are prospecting all the opportunities. Rare earths, which there are people who think it is important to hand over to Trump to make peace with him, for us it is an axis of development", said Haddad.
In response to what the legacy of Lula's administration would be, Tarcísio criticized the president's decisions.
"For me, [Lula] will only miss an opportunity and won't miss it. I think we let the tram pass by and didn't take advantage of a great opportunity. We have a lot of potential, we need to stop thinking and discussing the country of the future and start building it", declared the governor.
"We have products like sugar cane, which has a gigantic energy-biomass ratio, we generate ethanol, biomethane, we generate everything the world wants, we are reliable partners for what the world needs. And, suddenly, these opportunities are passing by. We need a key turnaround and qualify to take the leap that Brazil deserves to take. It has wonderful vocations and everything to be great. It's a matter of attitude, if it wants to be great, it depends on us", he added Tarcísio.
Electoral clash
Tarcísio and Haddad are pre-candidates for the government of São Paulo and have been differing on issues such as privatizations and public security.
The opportunity to contrast ideas occurs, as shown by CNN Brasil, at a time when Haddad's allies are afraid of a dispute without debates, which they believe could lead to a defeat in the 1st round.
The reading is that a totally polarized dispute with no opponents on the right or left in São Paulo would open the way for the governor not to attend the debates, which would make the meetings unfeasible.
