In a coma for 3 years, Thai princess' health worsens after infections

Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha's health condition worsened as a result of multiple infections in various organs and doctors were unable to contain her irregular heart rhythm, the Royal Palace said in a statement on Thursday (21).

The 47-year-old princess and eldest daughter of King Vajiralongkorn was taken to hospital in December 2022 after collapsing due to heart disease and infections. She has been in a coma since then.

After years of treatment, doctors discovered a stomach infection that led to inflammation in his intestines in April, causing his blood pressure to drop and his heart rhythm to be irregular, according to the statement.

She received medication and medical devices were implanted to support her lungs and kidneys, but her health continued to deteriorate, the palace said, adding that doctors would continue to closely monitor her condition and provide additional treatment.

Last year, Thailand's influential Queen Mother passed away at the age of 93.
