Grêmio defeated Santos 3-2 this Saturday (23), in Porto Alegre, and distanced itself from the relegation zone of the Brasileirão.

Carlos Vinícius was the main highlight of the victory of the club from Rio Grande do Sul, with two goals scored. On Peixe's side, Gabigol also found the net on two occasions. The decisive goal was scored by Tetê, 18 minutes into the second half.

Now, Grêmio reached the 21-point mark and rose to 13th place overall in the Brazilian Championship. Tricolor returns to the pitch next Tuesday (26), at 7pm (Brasília time), to host Montevideo City Torque, in a Copa Sudamericana duel.

Santos, in turn, stopped at 18 points and fell to 17th place. The São Paulo team also takes to the field on Tuesday, but at 9:30 pm, looking to qualify for the knockout stages of the South American Championship against Deportivo Cuenca.

The game
In the first minute of the match, Santos had a good opportunity with midfielder Willian Arão, who hit the post with an attempted header. Grêmio responded shortly after, with a ball that stopped in the defense of goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão.

The visitors took the lead at the 31-minute mark. After a mistake by full-back Caio Paulista, midfielder Miguelito stole the ball, took off at speed and rolled the ball into the net for striker Gabigol.

It didn't take long for the Gaucho team to equalize the dispute. Winger Francis Amuzu hit a beautiful cross and center forward Carlos Vinícius headed it firmly to put the score 1-1. In stoppage time of the initial stage, Santos full-back Escobar took a risk and forced goalkeeper Weverton to put the ball in for a corner.

In the second half, Peixe scored their second goal in the 10th minute. Escobar reached the baseline and passed it to midfielder Gabriel Bontempo. He cleared the marker and rolled the ball for Gabigol to put the São Paulo team in front of the marker.

However, four minutes later, full-back Cristian Pavón placed the ball in the area and Carlos Vinícius crossed the ball to make it 2-2. At the 18-minute mark, Tetê dribbled past the defense and finished in the corner, putting the Gauchos at an advantage.

Santos' situation became even more complicated when, in the 39th minute, midfielder Gustavo Henrique made a harsh tackle on midfielder Arthur and ended up being sent off the field. He received a second yellow card from referee Bruno Arleu de Araújo and had to withdraw from the match.

In the end, Tetê almost expanded for Grêmio, but ended up missing the target. Final result: 3 to 2 for Tricolor, who won for the fifth time in the Brasileirão.
