Igor Thiago reveals his feelings about defending the Brazilian team in the World Cup
One of the "newbies" who will defend the Brazilian team in the World Cup, striker Igor Thiago commented on the opportunity received and the dream realized, which goes far beyond what he expected.
With a historic season in the Premier League for Brentford, Igor Thiago received his first opportunity in the national team last year, in March. He took advantage with an important penalty goal and secured a place in the World Cup 26.
"It's the greatest achievement of my life, professional and personal. When I was in my city, I dreamed of representing my country. When you live this moment, it's a feeling that goes far beyond what you dreamed and thought. I'm very grateful to God for everything he has given me. Being here and being able to represent 200 million inhabitants is something surreal for me", he declared.
The former Cruzeiro striker said he was feeling a "good anxiety" about playing in his first World Cup, and that it is a cycle that will go down in history.
Igor Thiago had a season at Brentford with 25 goals in 40 games, 22 of which were in the Premier League, breaking the record for a Brazilian in the world's top league.
He arrives at the national team looking for his place, but he has already scored two goals, both from penalties, in three matches. The player introduced himself to those who don't know him:
"I would present myself as a happy, positive guy, that's me. On the field too, warrior, fighter, passionate, fighter. I want to show a little of my history, so that people can get to know it. I left Brazil very early and being able to show people the passion of wearing this shirt is what I want them to see from Thiago."
Brazil is in Group C of the World Cup, alongside Morocco, Haiti and Scotland, respectively opponents on the 13th, 19th and 24th of June. Penta, the Brazilian team is looking for its first world title since 2002.
