Igor Rousseff, brother of Dilma Rousseff, dies at age 79

Lawyer Igor Rouseff, older brother of former president Dilma Rouseff, died this Saturday (27), aged 79, in Belo Horizonte (MG). The announcement was made by Igor's grandson, councilor Pedro Rouseff (PT-MG), on social media.

Despite being informed that Igor was hospitalized, the cause of death was not disclosed by his family.

"Today my grandfather, Igor Rousseff, passed away. The first person who believed in me and made me enter politics. A simple, honest and hard-working man. He lived his life the way he wanted: always surrounded by friends and family", declared Pedro.

Graduated in law from UnB (University of Brasília), the former president's brother also studied journalism and history.

Despite not following Dilma's path in politics, Igor still had some contact with public life when he served as a special advisor between 2003 and 2008, during the administration of Fernando Pimentel (PT) at Belo Horizonte City Hall.

"He never wanted to get into politics. He was terrified of it. He always told me 'not to mess with it', 'you saw what they did to Dilminha'", added the grandson in the publication.

Also through the networks, former president Dilma Rousseff spoke about her brother's departure. In the publication, the leader of the New Development Bank wrote: "My brother, may you continue your journey in peace and serenity."

Other political figures linked to former president Dilma also paid tribute, such as former Minister of the Civil House José Dirceu (PT).
