iFood starts using drones to make deliveries in São Paulo

iFood announced this Monday (1st) that it began using drones on part of its delivery routes in the state of São Paulo.
In this first stage, the test is restricted to the stretch between restaurants at the Iguatemi Alphaville shopping mall and residential condominiums in Barueri. The operation will operate daily, from 10:30 am to 10:30 pm.

After the order is placed on the app, a courier or robot used by iFood collects it from the restaurant and places the package on the drone.
The equipment travels 3.6 km in about five minutes and then lands in a dedicated location in the condominium. Finally, a partner delivery person makes the last step to the customer's door.

The company stated that drones should help reduce rejection rates by delivery people in the region.
Almost 50% of orders in the region are refused due to difficult access and waiting time at entrances, according to the company.
This is the second drone delivery route announced by iFood. In 2021, the company began commercial use of equipment in Sergipe, on the route between Aracaju and Barra dos Coqueiros.
More than 5,000 orders have already been placed in Sergipe, replacing a 36 km land journey with a flight of less than 4 km, according to the company.
iFood states that its drone operation is authorized by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) and the Department of Airspace Control (Decea).
