If we wait for money to remain, we will never invest, says Lula

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) defended, this Thursday (3), the expansion of public investments and stated that "public money is never left over".

According to the president, the execution of works and public policies must be treated as a priority, even in the face of fiscal limitations.

"If I wait for my Finance people and my Planning people to say to me 'look, there's money left over, let's put it into Education', we will never invest. Because there will never be any left over. Public money will never be left over", he said, at an event at Palácio do Planalto.

Lula stated that "good money" is not money saved, but invested in public works.

"Good money is not money saved, it is money invested in works, education, health, railways, highways, waterways", he declared.

Today is the last day for the launch of the government's latest works before the electoral closure period - a measure that restricts institutional advertising - such as the presence of government officials at inaugurations.

The president reinforced that despite not being able to hold any more inaugurations, he should still visit construction sites in the states.

"Now we can't inaugurate anything else until the elections. Even though I can't inaugurate it, I'm going to visit many things that I still have to visit", he declared.
