"If he is guilty, he has to pay exemplarily", says Ciro about Flávio

Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) avoided taking a stance on Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) when asked about the investigations involving the pre-candidate for president with the former owner of Banco Master, Daniel Vorcaro.

In an interview with G1, the senator stated that he was not able to defend or accuse his colleague from the Upper House and said that, like him, he must be investigated.

"I'm not here to defend or accuse Senator Flávio. He has to be investigated, like everyone else, as I am. And, if he's innocent, so be it, of course, his innocence is recognized. If he's guilty, he has to pay exemplarily," he said.

Ciro also said he hopes the case will be clarified as soon as possible by the PF (Federal Police) and the MP (Public Ministry).

"No one is above being investigated. There has to be a serious and impartial investigation", he said.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was also cited as an example during the interview. The senator used a comparison while commenting on a possible loss of support for Flávio Bolsonaro with the repercussions of the case.

"We already had a President of the Republic in the country who was imprisoned for 500 days and is now the President of the Republic. So, I hope these situations are clarified", he commented.

The senator from Piauí was the target of the fifth phase of Operation Compliance Zero at the beginning of this month.

Investigations indicate that he received an envelope with a suggestion for a parliamentary amendment prepared by the liquidated bank. The so-called "Master amendment" consisted of an attempt to increase the FGC (Credit Guarantee Fund) guarantee limit from R$250,000 to R$1 million.

In a note sent at the time, Ciro's defense repudiated the operation and stated that the senator "had no participation in illicit activities or in the facts investigated".

The PF also identified a transfer of R$ 14.2 million from a fund linked to the Refit group to a company owned by Ciro's family.

During the interview, Ciro commented on the case in which he is being investigated and stated that he will resign from his mandate if the allegations are proven.

"If anything illegal is proven that could tarnish my honor, I will never return to my state with any blemish on my mandate", he reported.
