'I'm sorry to see this': Musk reacts to competitor Blue Origin's ship explosion

Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of the space technology company SpaceX, echoed the explosion of the New Glenn spacecraft, owned by competitor Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos. SpaceX and Blue Origin are the main companies in the commercial space race in the world.
On the social network X, also owned by Musk, the billionaire lamented what happened and wished the competitor to recover quickly.
"I'm sorry to see this, I hope you recover quickly", commented Elon Musk in the publication from Bezos' company.
The New Glenn spacecraft, one of the most powerful in the world, exploded this Thursday (28) during a test at the Blue Origin launch base.

The explosion happened around 10pm (Brasília time), when the space vehicle was undergoing a static ignition test, when it did not take off.
The experiment focused on the future NG-4 mission, announced by Blue Origin on Wednesday (27). The plan is for the ship to send the first 48 Amazon Leo satellites into space, similar to those used by Elon Musk's Starlink.
Blue Origin said it had recorded an "anomaly" and that all employees are safe. The company said it will provide updates as it obtains more details on the incident.

On Wednesday, the CEO of Blue Origin even celebrated the announcement of the future NG-4 mission. "Exciting mission coming up. I couldn't be more proud to support the Leo team on this mission," he said.
New Glenn is the supership designed by Blue Origin to make longer flights. It is the direct competitor of Starship, a ship that made its most recent flight last Friday (22) and is manufactured by SpaceX, owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
Blue Origin has already carried out three test flights with New Glenn, all without crew. The first took place in early 2025, when the ship carried a prototype of another spacecraft created to deploy satellites in space.

The second test took place in November 2025 and served to send probes designed to reach Mars in 2027. The trip was commissioned by NASA and was marked as the first commercial mission of the Blue Origin spacecraft.

The third experiment was carried out in April 2026. It was the first time that the company reused a propellant, a feat that intensified the rivalry with SpaceX.

The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not yet taken a position on Thursday's accident.
Last Wednesday (27), the agency temporarily suspended future launches of SpaceX's Starship, due to a failure in the return to the atmosphere of the propellant used in the mission.
