Humidity delays soybean and wheat harvest in Argentina

Excess soil moisture in the southern region of Argentina's agricultural belt delayed the 2025/26 soybean harvest and postponed the planting of the 2026/27 wheat harvest, the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange reported this Thursday.

The exchange forecasts soybean production of 50.1 million tons and expects wheat planting to reach 6.5 million hectares. The soybean harvest is now concentrated in southern growing areas, where part of the crop has not yet been harvested, the exchange said.

The advance of the national soybean harvest reached 97.2% of the planted area, he added.

Wheat planting was 57.6% complete, the exchange said, adding that despite weather-related delays, planting remains 16.6 percentage points ahead of the historical average pace, the exchange said.

The exchange also reported that Argentina's corn harvest in the 2025/26 harvest was 48.2% complete. The forecast is for a record corn harvest of 64 million tons.

Argentina is the world's largest exporter of soybean oil and meal and one of the main global suppliers of wheat.
