Hugo: I have no doubts about Alcolumbre's commitment to the end of 6×1

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), said this Tuesday (26) that he has no doubts about the "sensitivity and commitment" of the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), with the end of the 6×1 scale.

"We have Houses that have their own autonomy. So, what I have been working on is for the Chamber of Deputies to complete its work. In conclusion, I have no doubt about President Davi's sensitivity and commitment to this agenda that is so important for Brazilian society," Hugo told journalists.

The proposal is being analyzed by a special committee of the Chamber and Hugo Motta's intention is to vote on the text in plenary on Thursday (28). The proposal's opinion was presented on Monday (25) after agreement with the government. The text foresees a transition of 14 months until the current 44 hours per week is reduced to 40 hours.

Despite criticism from members of the opposition and representatives of the productive sector, the proposal has support in the Chamber and is considered pacified. The government base, however, views the proceedings in the Senate with reservations and acts to mitigate resistance.

Hugo Motta stated that he had a "great" relationship with Alcolumbre and respected the Senate, but denied having agreed a timetable with the senator for an accelerated analysis of the proposal. The Executive is in a hurry and, with the elections in mind, expects the matter to be approved as soon as possible. To do this, rely on the coordination of the President of the Chamber.

The PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) must be voted on in the special committee on Wednesday (27). The opinion of deputy Leo Prates (Republicanos-BA) provides for two days of rest for workers and the reduction from 44 hours to 42 hours after 60 days of the promulgation of the amendment, that is, after it has been approved by both Houses and made official.

After one year, there will be a reduction of another two hours, to reach 40 hours of maximum weekly working hours. Specific cases of categories with different working hours and adjustments for MEIs (individual micro-entrepreneurs) must still be addressed through a bill.
