Hugo calls on Chamber leaders to define agendas before the recess

The president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), called for this Tuesday (7), at 2 pm, a meeting with the leaders of the House's parties to define the agenda for the penultimate week before the parliamentary recess. The main points to be discussed are the bills that deal with increasing the ceiling for MEIs (Individual Microentrepreneur) and the classification of the crime of misogyny.

The main goal is to set a date for voting on increasing the limit for MEI collection. The text is currently in the special committee and Motta's idea was to take it to the plenary in the first semester.

Today, the ceiling for MEI collection is R$81 thousand. The project proposes an increase to R$140,000 in a phased manner.

The time for approval, however, is short. The parliamentary recess begins on July 18th and will last until the first week of August. When they return to work, the majority of deputies and senators will be on an election campaign, which would make voting difficult. This perspective is already being worked on by congressmen.

Another issue that still needs agreement is the Misogyny Bill. The text is under urgency and will not need to be analyzed by the Chamber's committees. Thus, the text will go straight to voting in the House plenary.

The project includes misogyny among crimes of prejudice or discrimination, and equates the new criminal type to the crime of racism. Penalties range from two to five years in prison, in addition to payment of a fine. There is, however, a clash with the opposition over the content of the text. They argue that the project "ends freedom of expression" and call for significant changes to the project's structure.

Another issue that can be debated among congressmen is the installation of the special commission that will deal with the PEC that proposes the reduction of the age of criminal responsibility from 18 to 16 years old. The text passed through the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) in June and had a special commission dedicated to debating the proposal created on Monday (6). The tendency is for Motta to give more details about how he expects the collegiate's work schedule to be carried out.

The collegiate body has not yet been formed and the rules provide for the nomination of parties. The composition is proportional to the representation of the parties in the Chamber. The tendency is for a schedule for debates and voting on the proposal to be discussed not only in the committee but also in the House plenary.
