Nvidia has announced a new chip for PCs in an attempt to gain space in the market for devices integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

"This reinvention of the computer is as significant as the reinvention of the telephone was in what we know today as a smartphone," said Nvidia's executive director, Jensen Huang, when presenting the RTX Spark chip.
Huang made the announcement on Monday (01/06), in a speech before the opening of the Computex technology fair, in Taipei, Taiwan.
The RTX Spark is "a new superchip... for the era of personal agents of AI - offering a new class of computer that goes from tool to co-worker," Nvidia said on its website.

It will be included in a new line of Windows PCs produced by Lenovo, HP, Dell, Microsoft Surface, Asus and MSI. They are expected to be available in the second half of the year, with models from Acer and Gigabyte to follow.
The move poses a challenge to prominent names in the computer market such as Apple and Intel.
Lenovo, HP, Dell and Apple accounted for nearly 75% of the global personal computer market in the first three months of this year, according to research firm Gartner.
The boom in data centers that power AI has helped Nvidia become the world's most valuable company, with a market valuation of more than $5 trillion.
