Mechanization in the field helps rural producers in ES
The use of machines and drones has transformed the routine in the field in Espírito Santo. Especially for older rural producers, technology is an ally to continue in the activity with less effort, more security and quality of life.
On the property of coffee farmer Antônio Carlos Soares, aged 69, in Vila Valério, northwest of the state, mechanization arrived by his own desire. In order for him to continue in the field, it was necessary to reduce physical effort.

"It encourages producers to stay in the field and work even as they get older, because it becomes easier to do things. In the past, you carried the coffee on your back. Today, for example, there is a machine that harvests (the coffee), which you throw on top of the truck. You no longer pick up the bags of coffee to throw on top."
For the producer from Espírito Santo, Adopting technology that makes harvesting work easier and reduces damage to health is also a way to keep family history alive. Antônio Carlos started on the property when he was 8 years old, following his father.
"Coffee has always been the basis of the family's life. I accompanied my father, helping him work since I was a child. I started working, at that time, from 8 to 9 years old", he remembers.
Drones reduce risks in the field
Drones help in the spraying of defenders in the fields of Espírito Santo.

Over time, the coffee grower formed his own farm. Today, there are approximately 60 thousand coffee plants and some drones to carry out the application of defensive products without the producer carrying weight or exposing himself to chemicals.
"Before, it was necessary to use the backpack pump. Today, we practically use it very little", says the producer.
According to agronomist engineer Perseu Fernando Perdona, from the Cooabriel cooperative, in addition to the biological risk of the defenders used in crops, there is the issue of ergonomic health, which was harmed by the use of backpack equipment.
"The issue of ergonomic health also improves when you don't need to wear a backpack. You avoid carrying weight and also save time; it optimizes the producer's time so that he can do other activities."
For Octávio Ribeiro, sales supervisor at Cooabriel, technology in the field also has other impacts. One of them is the strengthening of family succession on rural properties.
"Technology has a lot to add in a positive way so that young people interact more in the field and become more interested in running the activity of their father, grandfather, and family", he says.

In addition to the drone spraying service, Cooabriel also offers technical support to producers. Professionals such as agronomists and agricultural specialists monitor the crops.
"We analyze the vigor, the growth rate of the crop, the infestation of any pests, any diseases, the need for any soil corrective, which fertilizer to use, when to use it, how to use it", explains Octávio Ribeiro.
The guidance also includes the safe use of equipment and the search for more productivity, without leaving aside the knowledge of those who spent their lives in the farming.
According to the sales supervisor, any tool that the producer has within the property that helps with work in the field is a form of technology embedded in the property.
"So, from soil preparation, production, harvesting and selling more quickly and efficiently, these are technologies that help the producer."
