Holland's defeat in the World Cup prevents Corinthians from increasing profits with Memphis' participation

The elimination of the Netherlands to Morocco, last Monday, also had financial consequences for Corinthians. With the defeat of the Dutch team in the second phase of the World Cup, the black and white club stopped pocketing around 100 thousand dollars (approximately R$ 518.3 thousand at current prices) through FIFA's financial compensation program.
The entity pays 5 thousand dollars (around R$ 25.9 thousand) per day to clubs that lend players to compete in the World Cup. The only Corinthians representative in the tournament was striker Memphis Depay, called up by the Dutch national team.

Between the Dutch debut in the competition, on June 14, and the elimination against the Moroccans, on June 29, Memphis remained at the selection's disposal for 16 days. This period guaranteed Corinthians a return of 80 thousand dollars, a value close to R$ 415 thousand.
If the Netherlands had reached the tournament decision, scheduled for July 19th, the amount received by Timão could reach 180 thousand dollars, something around R$ 934 thousand.
In addition to the World Cup period, Corinthians must also receive an amount relating to the preparation phase of the Dutch team. As Memphis presented itself to the Netherlands on May 30th for training before the tournament, the club can earn another 75 thousand dollars, around R$ 389 thousand.
In the match against Morocco, Memphis didn't even leave the bench. The match ended in a 1-1 draw in normal time and, even during extra time, coach Ronald Koeman chose not to use number 10.
In the penalty shootout, the Moroccan team prevailed by winning 3-2, taking advantage of the mistakes of the Netherlands, which wasted three penalties and ended up saying goodbye to the competition.
After the elimination, Memphis will go on vacation before returning to Corinthians. The striker's future, however, remains undefined, as his contract with the club ends on July 31st. The black and white board has already presented a proposal to expand the bond, but is still awaiting a response from the player.
