Henry Borel case: see who will still be heard in jury

The trial of Jairo Souza Santos Júnior, Dr. Jairinho, and Monique Medeiros advances to crucial stages in the II Jury Court of Rio de Janeiro. After the conclusion of the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses and technical experts, the work now focuses on the hearings provided by the defendants' defenses. The trial for the death of Henry Borel's boy enters its sixth day this Saturday (30).

The session, chaired by judge Elizabeth Machado Louro, is expected to last between seven and ten days.

Interrogation of defendants and final debates
After the conclusion of the hearings of all witnesses, the procedural rite provides for the interrogation of Jairinho and Monique Medeiros. This will be the moment when the defendants will be able to present their versions of the events that occurred in March 2021.

Jairinho is accused of being the perpetrator of the attacks that resulted in 23 injuries and the boy's death, while Monique is charged with homicide by omission, under the thesis that she was aware of the attacks and did not act to prevent them.

Once the interrogations are over, the trial enters the phase of oral debates between the Public Prosecutor's Office and the defense lawyers. The final decision will be made by the Sentencing Council, made up of seven jurors, who will vote to convict or acquit the defendants.

In case of conviction with a sentence of more than 15 years, the Court may order the immediate arrest of the accused while still in plenary.
