Former councilor Jairo Souza Santos Júnior, known as Dr. Jairinho, announced the dismissal of his technical defense at the opening of proceedings at the II Jury Court of the Capital, on the morning of this Monday (25), in Rio de Janeiro.

The act occurs at a decisive moment in the process that investigates the triple homicide of the boy Henry Borel. The defendant stated that it was "impossible" to be tried after his main defense lawyer, Fabiano Lopes, suffered a heart attack in recent days. Jairinho requested the postponement of the session, claiming that he did not have enough time to align the strategy with the other defenders.

However, after the judge threatened to send Jairinho from Bangu 8 prison to Bangu 1, the defendant rethought the decision and decided to continue with his lawyers.

Accusations and history of postponements
This is not the first interruption in the procedural rite. In March of this year, the trial had already been postponed after Jairinho's defense left the plenary.

On that occasion, judge Elizabeth Machado Louro rescheduled the session for May 25th, after rejecting requests for new expertise and expanded access to digital evidence.

Jairinho and his ex-wife, Monique Medeiros, are responsible for the death of 4-year-old boy Henry Borel, which occurred in March 2021.
