The young woman, now 18 years old, detailed episodes of violence suffered in her childhood, including successive drownings in a swimming pool and physical attacks.

Previously, the jury followed the testimonies of the delegates responsible for the investigation and experts from the Instituto Médico-Legal (IML).

The technical evidence presented showed that the 23 injuries found on Henry's body were incompatible with the thesis of a domestic accident supported by the defendants' lawyers.

Dynamics of the Jury Court
The fate of Jairinho and Monique will be decided by the Sentencing Council, made up of seven jurors drawn from ordinary citizens.

The session is chaired by judge Elizabeth Machado Louro, and the prosecution's expectation is that the trial will last for a period of seven to ten days, given the complexity of the case.

According to the Public Ministry's complaint, Jairinho had caused the fatal injuries to the child, while Monique had remained silent in the face of the attacks to preserve her relationship with the then councilor.

Next stages of the trial
The procedural rite still provides for the hearing of remaining witnesses before the official interrogation of the defendants and the final oral debates between defense and prosecution.

If the jurors decide to convict with a sentence of more than 15 years, the Court may order the immediate arrest of the accused while still in court.
