The history of Corinthian Democracy will be portrayed in a new audiovisual production by HBO. Streaming is preparing a dramatized series with eight episodes that will address one of the most symbolic periods in the history of Corinthians and Brazilian football, following the trajectory of characters who were directly linked to the movement that began in the early 1980s.

According to Folha de São Paulo, the production will focus on the stories of Sócrates, Casagrande, Wladimir and Adílson Monteiro Alves, names considered fundamental to the construction of the project that transformed the way the club was managed during the Brazilian military dictatorship.

Created in the early 1980s, Corinthian Democracy established a model of collective participation within Corinthians. Players, employees and managers began to participate in the club's internal decisions through voting, at a time marked by the absence of political freedom in the country.

In addition to the administrative changes, the movement also gained prominence due to the social positioning of those involved. Athletes used football's visibility to defend ideas related to democracy, popular participation and freedom of expression, making Corinthians a symbol of resistance on and off the pitch.

The series aims to show this process of transformation experienced by the club, from internal debates to decisive moments on the field. The narrative must also address the conquest of the 1982 Campeonato Paulista, the first title of the so-called Corinthian Democracy era, a period in which Corinthians once again lifted a state cup under this management model.

According to information released by HBO, the production is in the pre-production phase and has already begun the process of choosing the cast that will play the historical characters.

The direction of the project will be divided between Moara Passoni and Maria Farkas, while the general direction will be Aly Muritiba. Passoni also created the series and participated in the script alongside David Barker. The duo previously worked on the documentary "Democracia em Vertigem", directed by Petra Costa and nominated for an Oscar.

The work will be produced by Maria Farinha Filmes in partnership with HBO. So far, the broadcaster has not yet released the official premiere date for the series.

The production arrives at a time when Corinthian Democracy continues to be remembered as one of the most important chapters in the relationship between football, politics and society in Brazil. The movement went beyond the limits of sport and became part of Corinthians' memory and the country's recent history.
