Hamilton refutes retirement rumors and guarantees stay at Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton spoke out against speculation about his retirement from Formula 1 this Thursday (21) and stated that he has a contract with Ferrari until 2027 and intends to remain in the category for a long time.
The seven-time world champion has not yet won a race for the Italian team since leaving Mercedes and will turn 42 in January next year.
"I still have a contract, so everything is 100% clear to me," said the Briton at a press conference at the Canadian Grand Prix, when asked about next season.
"I'm still focused, I'm still motivated. I still love what I do with all my heart and I'm going to be here for a long time, so get used to it."
Hamilton added that "there are a lot of people trying to retire me, but it doesn't even cross my mind."
The Briton is the most successful driver in F1 history, with a record of 105 victories and 104 pole positions.
The first of these victories came at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal during his 2007 debut season with McLaren.
His most recent victory was in Belgium, in 2024.
"On the outside, people call results success, but internally, for me, success is progress," said Hamilton.
"If you're evolving, then you're succeeding. I don't really put too much pressure on it."
"I've always said I'm very grateful for the records and that kind of thing, but they're not things I dwell on."
Hamilton also revealed a change of approach to the weekend in Canada, saying he decided not to spend time in the Ferrari simulator in Maranello.
He stated that he also did not use the simulator before the Chinese Grand Prix, a race he considered his best of the season, when he finished third and achieved his first podium with Ferrari.
"You find a setting in the simulator that you feel comfortable with, you get to the track and everything is the opposite. So you end up undoing everything you learned," he explained.
"So it's a bit unpredictable. For this step, I decided to leave that aside and focus more on the data."
