Hamas announces departure from Gaza government and opens the way for management committee

The terrorist group Hamas announced on Monday (6) the dissolution of the body that governed the Gaza Strip maintained by them for almost two decades. The departure paves the way for a Palestinian technocratic committee to implement civilian government in the territory.
The head of the Hamas-linked government, Mohammed al-Farra, resigned from his position on Monday morning, said Ismail Thawabta, director general of the media office run by the group in Gaza, during a press conference.
The Gaza Strip has been administered by the terrorist group since 2007.

Only technical employees should remain in their positions to avoid an administrative vacuum, according to Thawabta.
The measure was taken "to alleviate the suffering resulting from the ongoing war, the delay in reconstruction, the continued siege, the closure of border crossings and the refusal of the Israeli Army to withdraw," he said.

Thawabta also called on the parties involved to expedite procedures for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to assume its administrative functions definitively.
In a separate statement, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said that the measure aims to eliminate pretexts for Israeli interference and reaffirmed the group's commitment to transferring all governance responsibilities in Gaza.

In mid-June, Palestinian factions met with mediators in Cairo and presented their proposal for the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
The roadmap, presented by the US-led "Peace Council", includes mechanisms for the future of Gaza. Gaza, including reconstruction, disarmament, Israeli withdrawal and deployment of an international peacekeeping force.
Also on Monday, five Palestinians were killed and at least 18 were injured in separate Israeli attacks on displaced people and residential areas in southern Gaza and Gaza City, according to Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for Civil Defense in Gaza - also controlled by Hamas.
The attacks occurred despite a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10, 2025. Hamas and Israel continued to exchange accusations of violating the truce.
Health authorities based in Gaza reported on Monday that the death toll since the ceasefire reached 1,072, with 3,463 injured. In total, the death toll in Gaza since the start of the conflict in October 2023 is 73,098, with 173,571 injured.
