Hakimi says she is waiting for rape trial to "finally speak"

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi said this Friday (19) that he will go to trial on a rape charge and said he was looking forward to the opportunity to present his version of the facts.

The Moroccan player, who was expected to join Morocco's squad for the clash against Scotland, appealed against the decision to send him to a criminal court. The French press reported that the Versailles Court of Appeal rejected the appeal, paving the way for the trial on a date yet to be defined.

"Today, a story that is not mine is being told at the expense of my family, my life and, above all, the truth. Sometimes I feel like I have become an easy target," Hakimi wrote in a post on the social network X.

"I've been waiting for this trial since day one. And now I'm looking forward to it. I'll finally be able to speak."

There is still no confirmation on when the trial will begin. The Versailles Court of Appeal and the player's lawyer did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Nanterre opened an investigation in 2023 following a report of rape against the athlete.

Hakimi participated in Morocco's World Cup debut, in the draw against Brazil on Sunday, before continuing with the team's schedule during the tournament.
