Guto Miguel wins, makes history and is Roland Garros youth champion

Luis Guto Miguel made history by beating the American Michael Antonius and becoming the first Brazilian youth champion at Roland Garros in a game played this Saturday morning (6), in Paris.

The 17-year-old tennis player was dominant throughout the game and won by 2 sets to 0, with partials of 6/3 and 6/4, in 1h16 of the match to win the unprecedented title for Brazilian tennis.

In the first set, Guto won without much difficulty and closed at 6/3. In the second set, the Brazilian continued to improve and won 6/4, with two breaks of serve to guarantee the cup.

Before Guto made history in France, the last youth title for a Brazilian in a Grand Slam was João Fonseca, who won the 2023 US Open.

The last Brazilian to reach the youth final of the French Grand Slam in men's singles was Luis Felipe Tavares, in 1967. In addition to him, Edison Mandarino, in 1959) and Thomaz Koch, in 1962 and '63, were also finalists, but they all finished runner-up.

Brazil makes history

The Brazilians made history in this edition of Roland Garros. In the main draw, João Fonseca reached the quarterfinals, something that hadn't happened in 22 years. The 19-year-old tennis player also became the youngest Brazilian to reach this stage in a Grand Slam.

On the way to the quarterfinals, João played memorable matches, eliminating giants like Novak Djokovic and Casper Ruud.

In women's doubles, Brazilian Luisa Stefani reached the semifinals alongside Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski, but the pair ended up surpassed by American Taylor Townsend and Czech Katerina Siniakova also this Friday.

In the youth category, Luis Guto Miguel and Leonardo Storck França reached the semifinals, with Guto Miguel securing the title. In the women's singles, Victoria Barros also reached the semis. This Friday, she ended up defeated by the Chinese Sun Xinran and said goodbye to the tournament.
