Grêmio fan arrives in the USA in a Volkswagen Beetle and meets former Inter coach
The goal of Guilherme Martin, a 33-year-old Grêmio fan, was fulfilled: arriving in the United States for the World Cup with his 1971 Beetle. The gaucho left Porto Alegre in March, experienced unforeseen events, but arrived in New York in the last few days.
With the vehicle optimized with Grêmio stickers and carrying the Brazilian flag, Guilherme found coach Odair Hellmann, ex-Internacional, on the streets of the Manhattan neighborhood. The two took a photo published on the fan's Instagram profile (@atedefuscanosiremos).
"I had the honor of meeting Professor Odair Hellmann in the middle of Manhattan", wrote the Grêmio player, when posing for the record alongside the current Athletico-PR coach.
About two months ago, Guilherme was stopped halfway through his trip - more than 14 thousand kilometers in total. The Grêmio fan had to return to Rio Grande do Sul after being unable to cross the border between Chile and Peru.
The impediment by the authorities was due to a problem with the Beetle's documentation. The gaucho rectified the situation and returned to the road.
Odair at Brazil's World Cup debut
Coach Odair Hellmann revealed, in an official interview via Athletico-PR on Thursday (11), that he would travel to the United States to watch the Brazilian team's World Cup debut.
"I'm one of those who watches every game. I'll have the pleasure of watching the first games there, 'in loco', at the stadium. Brazil's debut and one or two more games in which I'll be there (in the United States). Then I'll watch it from here in Curitiba, from home", he stated, in an interview with Furacão TV.
"I watch (the World Cup) as a fan, but also as a professional, evaluating the teams and structures to see if something emerges that I can put into my day-to-day work. Reflect and think ahead", he added.
Brazil faces Morocco this Saturday (13th), at 7pm (Brasília time), at the MetLife Stadium, in New Jersey, in the United States.
Carlo Ancelotti's men and the African team are in Group C with Scotland and Haiti. The Athletico-PR coach takes advantage of his vacation to travel before the squad is re-presented for the rest of the season.
