Grass producers in Itapetininga boost sales with the arrival of the World Cup

The World Cup is approaching and, with it, expectations also grow on and off the fields. In Itapetininga (SP), grass producers take advantage of the competitive atmosphere to reinforce the sale of grass used in stadiums, training centers, football clubs and schools in different regions of the country.
In one of the region's farms, the scene catches attention: there are 50 bushels of plantation, the equivalent of 169 football fields. The green area, with grass as far as the eye can see, specializes in the production of varieties used for different purposes, including to equip sports fields.

The person who coordinates part of this work is businessman Emerson Terra Rocha Júnior. His family has been in the business for over 35 years. According to him, production involves a series of precautions, from preparing the soil to harvesting the grass that will be delivered to customers.
The company also maintains other farms in the Itapetininga region, in addition to crops in Minas Gerais. According to the businessman, around 10% of production is aimed at football, mainly for clubs in the Southeast.
Among the most sold varieties is emerald grass, known for its resistance and adaptation to Brazilian stadiums. Emerson says that, despite working with grass used in football, he has not yet seen his favorite team play on a field produced by the company itself.

In Brazil, another variety widely used on fields is bermuda, also known for its resistance to being trampled by athletes. According to agricultural technician João Marcos Rochel, the choice of grass directly influences the quality of the field and performance during matches.
The quality of the grass can change the pace of a game. When the grass is well cared for, strong and uniform, the ball runs better and players can move more safely. Furthermore, the grass also helps to soften the impacts of falls and can reduce the risk of injuries.
Thinking about guaranteeing this quality to customers, businessman Guilherme de Souza has dedicated himself for 10 years to improving the grass sold to the football market. He manages more than 100 bushels of production on a farm in Itapetininga.
According to Guilherme, half of what is harvested on the property is sold to teams, clubs and schools. The businessman states that the moment has been positive for the sector. In recent weeks, sales have grown by more than 50%, driven by the proximity of the World Cup.
With the expectation of the biggest football tournament in the world, producers in the region reinforce that work in the field is also part of the spectacle that takes place within the four lines.
