Governor of the Federal District, Celina Leão, is hospitalized in Brasília

The governor of the Federal District, Celina Leão (PP) was admitted to Hospital Santa Lúcia, in the Southern Hospital Sector, this Saturday (30), to treat a pneumothorax, according to information from the Government of the Federal District.

The policy will be under medical observation. Until the last update of this report, there was no forecast for an increase.

Leão was elected vice-governor of the DF on the ticket of Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), who was removed from office, as determined by the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes, after the events of January 8th.

Before arriving at Palácio do Buriti, Celina Leão served a term as a federal deputy, from 2019 to 2022. She, however, took a leave of absence from the position between May and December 2020 to take over the Secretariat of Sports and Leisure in Ibaneis' first term.

She won her first elected position in 2010, when she became district deputy. Re-elected in 2014, Leão assumed the presidency of the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District in 2015.

The former deputy was removed from the presidency in 2016 by decision of the TJDF (Court of Justice of the Federal District), in an operation that investigated alleged illicit collection of values from companies for the allocation of parliamentary amendments. In 2022, the STJ (Superior Court of Justice) ordered the suspension of criminal proceedings.

Celina Leão is a supporter of former president Jair Bolsonaro and defends the achievements of his administration at the head of the federal government on her social networks.

During the 2022 elections, Celina accompanied the former president's wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, and senator Damares Alves (Republicans) in a movement called "Women with Bolsonaro", which toured Brazil in order to win votes from female voters for the retired captain.

The former deputy, however, used her social networks after the second round to recognize the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). "I am a democrat. I will always accept the results of the polls. Defeat is not the end of a story, it will always be a comma! Brazil expects the best from us!", she wrote.
