Government will require that advertisements for bets include a warning of harm, like those for alcoholic beverages
The Ministry of Finance will impose rules for the display of betting house advertisements, known as bets, during broadcasts of 2026 World Cup games.
Under the new rule, any bet advertisement during the World Cup or after the competition will have to include awareness messages at the end of the broadcast, in a format similar to advertisements for alcoholic beverages.
For example: "play responsibly", "betting is an activity with the risk of financial loss", "betting can cause addiction", "know when to bet and when to stop", or "betting is a matter for adults".
The determination is based on a definition from the National Advertising Self-Regulation Council (Conar).
The restrictions will be in force in the second phase of the competition, which starts on Sunday (28), according to the Treasury.

According to information from the Ministry of Finance obtained by GloboNews, the new rules will be published in the format of a provisional measure (MP) of the Presidency of the Republic.
In conversation with journalists gathered in Beijing, this Friday (26), minister Dario Durigan stated that the Ianda ministry is studying other measures to limit the amount of betting advertising during the games.
However, he did not detail the content of the restrictions, which are still in the study phase.
Limitation on illegal bets
Last Friday (19), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that the federal government will block resources from illegal bets and send them to the public security fund, respecting the legal process.
The announcement of the measure takes place the day after an operation was carried out against a criminal scheme involving billion-dollar movements through illegal bets (remember more here).

What Conar says
According to the institution, betting advertisements must be broadcast in a socially responsible manner, as it is the dissemination of a service with restrictions on use and inappropriate for certain audiences.
The text prohibits advertising pieces, through texts, images or slogans, to encourage the practice of betting, encourage excessive gambling, repetition continuous behavior or behaviors considered irresponsible.
The rules also determine that advertising pays special attention to the protection of children, adolescents and other people in vulnerable situations.
