Government will impose rules for betting advertisements during World Cup games, says minister

The Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, stated this Thursday (26) that the government will impose new rules for the display of betting house advertisements, called bets, during broadcasts of 2026 World Cup games.
The idea is that the restrictions will come into force in the second phase of the competition, which starts on Sunday (28).
The Brazilian team will debut in the knockout stage against Japan on Monday (29) at 2pm.
Durigan's statement came during a conversation with journalists gathered in Beijing. The minister is carrying out official agendas in China this week, with the aim of deepening bilateral cooperation in strategic areas for the country.
Brazil guarantees leadership in Group C of the World Cup
The minister did not give details about the format or content of the restrictions, but said that the Ministry of Finance is already working on the text to limit bet announcements.
The department is still studying whether the measure will be published in the form of a ministry ordinance or a provisional measure (MP) from the Presidency of the Republic.
Limitation on betting platforms
Last Friday (19), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced that the federal government will block resources from illegal bets and send them to the public security fund, respecting the legal process.
The announcement of the measure takes place the day after an operation was carried out against a criminal scheme for moving billions of dollars through illegal bets (remember more here).
