Government publishes regulations on gasoline and diesel subsidies

The federal government published, on Monday night (25), the decree that regulates economic subsidies to producers and importers of petroleum-derived fuels.

The measure was published in an extra edition of the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union), and aims to mitigate the impacts caused by the shock on the international energy market with the war in the Middle East.

The decree regulates the MP (provisional measure) published by the Lula government on May 13, which subsidizes federal taxes charged on gasoline and diesel.

Currently, a liter of gasoline is taxed at R$0.89 per liter, which includes PIS, Cofins and CIDE, which is the maximum amount the subsidy can reach. Subsidies cannot exceed the ceiling on federal taxes on fuels.

In principle, the subsidy must be awarded until July, with the possibility of extension.

Producers and importers interested in the subsidy must request authorization through an accession form submitted to the ANP (National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels).
