Government of Bahia promotes joint effort to rectify name and gender

The MPBA (Public Ministry of Bahia), during the month of June, expanded initiatives aimed at promoting citizenship and guaranteeing the rights of the LGBTIAPN+ population, with actions to rectify names and gender for transgender, transsexual, transvestite and non-binary people.

The initiative of the 1st Human Rights Public Prosecutor's Office arose from the experience of name and gender rectification efforts promoted by the MPBA since 2021.

The objective of the action is to facilitate the population's access to rights, reducing bureaucratic barriers and bringing citizenship services closer to the community.

Rectification of name and gender is more than a documentary change, it ensures recognition of the person's identity and contributes to full access to rights in the areas of work, education, health and other areas of social life.

In addition to providing services focused on civil documentation, the project includes lectures, conversation groups and educational activities on topics such as combating LGBTphobia, bullying, cyberbullying, diversity in the workplace, equity and human rights.

The proposal is to encourage the construction of safer, more inclusive environments free from discrimination.
